What Have I Discovered so Far

Now, many people might say "Yeah, what a novelty, a black man talking about black issues". And I will answer YES, it must me talk until we don't have to talk about it anymore. Nobody likes talking about it.

As many immigrants in Sweden, I move here, among other reasons, because of love. My ass changed language, country, a career, family and friends, because of my sambo - name for a partner you live with in Sweden, without being married (Sin!) - asked me to move and try a life together, after years of knowing each other in the distance.

When people think in Sweden, we all thing in equality in rights, progressive culture, embracing diversity and accepting the difference. Nothing could be more wrong.

The country is full of "closet-racist".

When I first visit Sweden, I came being aware it was full of white people, so I was expecting everyone to be distant and rejecting. It was the opposite. Everyone was pretty nice. I just was here for a couple of weeks.

Then I moved. Everyone's been really nice. Very nice. Too nice, I dare to say. Nobody can be that nice. And then it hit me. You cannot read what the Swedes have in their minds. You can find really open racist with a welcoming smile in their faces. They accept you but keep their distance, like saying "This is what I've been told I have to be, but I don't agree with it".

Nevertheless, it was not surprising to find racists in a predominant white country. Which really surprised me, and mostly disappointed me was the level of apathy, among the pseudo-liberal SwedesIn their eagerness to avoid disputes, many Swedes avoid confrontation by any means; even if it is on behalf of loved ones.

Shamefully, even in moments of injustice, they will never step up against it. They will feel uncomfortable, and will show horror eyes, but that's all.

Sweden is a land of peace, because they just ignore what might lead to any fight. Instead, everything becomes passive-aggressive behaviour - but that's topic for another post.
